Jurassic Park Illustration

This piece started out as a possible entry for a contest over at the Stan Winston online school.  I ended up finishing it up on my own as client work came first.  It turned out pretty good I think.  8″ x 18″ – all pencil.  Done on 2 pieces of card stock paper fitted together horizontally.  I wanted to tell a story and lead the eye through the piece using lighting, form and movement.

I did end up adjusting levels a bit in photoshop as well as use the burn and dodge tools.  I know some would “poo-poo” that, but I wanted to just let the pencils I put down do the work.  I thought I would try to adjust them rather than work over them digitally to bring out the lights and darks.  It was an experiment.  I may go back and fiddle with it digitally later as another route and compare the two.
