Finished up this illustration recently for Sketch Theatre’s monthly challenge. This month’s topic was Joan of Arc. I wanted to create a soft sketchy portrait with strong graphic lines as the border and the fleur de lis tapestry as the background element. I also enjoyed the idea of the old masters’ use of a halo in their paintings when representing an individual considered holy. I did so in this illustration keeping hard lines on it so it would flow with the boarder and contrast and outline Joan of Arc.
